Recently, BOC Sciences announced the expansion of its pseudouridine and its GMP-grade derivative production line to respond to the global shortage of COVID-19 mRNA vaccine raw materials.

New York, USA – June 24, 2021 – Recently, BOC Sciences, the leading chemical supplier headquartered in New York, announced the expansion of its pseudouridine (Ψ) and its GMP-grade derivative production line to respond to the global shortage of COVID-19 mRNA vaccine raw materials. BOC Sciences has been providing global customers with chemicals for nucleic acid R&D and final product productions, especially during the pandemic, it has provided a variety of high-quality nucleic acid raw materials for the production of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, including pseudouridine and its derivatives.

Marketing Manager of BOC Sciences said: “Our current annual output of pseudouridine exceeds 500 kg, making us the world’s largest producer of pseudouridine. We strictly control the quality of each product to defend our brand. Whether it is GMP, industrial, or any other professional level, we have the ability to meet chemical requirements of any scale.”

COVID-19 mRNA vaccine BNT162b2 is a single-stranded 5’capped mRNA that is translated into SARS-CoV-2 S protein in human cells to induce immune response, humoral neutralizing antibody response, and Th1 type CD4+ and CD8+ cells response to block virus infection and kill virus-infected cells respectively.

In RNA synthesis, uridine is replaced by modified N1-methylpseudouridine (m1ΨTP), which increases mRNA stability and translation efficiency, and increases RNA persistence in vivo through dampening of innate immune response to itself.

RNA modification occurs in all organisms from bacteria to humans. It is introduced by specialized proteins (enzymes) that modify the chemical structure of nucleotides, which are the components of RNA. RNA modification affects the activity, localization, and stability of RNA (coding and non-coding), and is related to human diseases. So far, more than 100 different types of RNA modifications have been discovered, but their functions are mostly unknown.

Pseudouridine is the most abundant RNA modification in cellular RNA. It is an isomerization product of uridine (U). Except for mRNA, the occupancy rate of Ψ is about 0.1%. This modification is related to key RNA functions in the cell, such as enhancing RNA secondary structure and translation regulation, and the level of Ψ changes with oxidation, micronutrients, or heat shock stress.

“Since pseudouridine is an indispensable raw material for the SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine, this important measure of BOC Sciences is a strong response to the shortage of mRNA vaccine raw materials and is expected to help prevent the global spread of COVID-19 and save millions of lives.” the Chief Scientist of BOC Sciences said.
